One hundred twenty librarians, authors, and artists met to learn more about the importance and impact of images in young adult literature. Authors Robin Brenner, Erik P. Kraft, Misako Rocks!, Dave Roman, and Raina Telgemeier shared information on how comics are created, how to understand manga, and how art and text work together.  A teen panel from Westhampton Free Library, moderated by John Shableski discussed the impact of manga on teen readers.  The day concluded on a sweet finish as Jonathan Bean, Chris Butzer, Mike Cavallaro, Dan Goldman, Matt Loux, Christine Norrie, Danica Novgorodoff, Misako Rocks, and Sara Varon demonstrated their artistic skill, while attendees enjoyed dessert.

As clearly articulated by one of the teens,  young adults need and deserve “great stories AND great art.”

Thanks to all who attended and participated in this memorable event.

John Shableski was kind enough to compile the list of anime websites recommended by the teen panel.
